Belize Main Attractions

Belize is a gorgeous country in Central America with an astoundingly diverse landscape that includes tropical islands, UNESCO World Heritage coral reefs, misty mountains, thick jungle, primeval rainforests, majestic waterfalls, and dozens of ancient Maya ruins.

Below are 6 amazing tourists attractions you can enjoy in Belize:

Altun Ha

Tourist Attractions in Belize

One of the country’s most iconic ancient Maya ruins, Altun Ha is located about 30 miles north of Belize City. The distinct architecture of the biggest pyramid in Altun Ha is featured on the logo of Belize’s biggest beer brand, Belikin Beer.

Crystal Cave

After a trek through the lush jungle of the Broad Loaf Forest, visitors enter the enormous Crystal Caves, voted as one of the top 10 crystal caves in the world. Inside, a dazzling array of stalactites and geological formations await visitors.

The Belize Zoo

More of an educational center than a traditional zoo, the Belize Zoo began life in the 1980s as a rescue center for abandoned and orphaned animals. Today, the Belize Zoo is home to more than 100 indigenous species, including jaguars, harpy eagles, crocodiles, and tapirs (Belize’s national animal). The Belize Zoo is the country’s first completely handicap-accessible facility of its kind and is located just west of Belize City.

Ambergris Caye

The largest island in Belize, Ambergris Caye (pronounced “amBURgis key”) is home to some of the country’s top seafood restaurants, beach resorts, and water sports. Popular activities include sea kayaking, windsurfing, and kite surfing as well as trips to the nearby Hol Chan Marine Reserve to enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving. The colorful capital of San Pedro is home to lively street parties and karaoke bars.

Caye Caulker

Long a mecca for backpackers and budget travelers, Caye Caulker is, in many ways, the mirror of Ambergris Caye. Located just offshore from Belize City, Caye Caulker is a gorgeous island ideal for beach barbecues, snorkeling, and drinking in the 360-degree view of the sparkling waters of the Caribbean.

Lamanai

Lamanai Mayan Site

The only ancient Maya site in Belize using its original name, Lamanai has been continuously occupied for more than 3,000 years. Putting up fierce resistance to the Spanish, the city of Lamanai is home to both ancient Maya temples and plazas as well as the remains of two burned-out Spanish churches.

All of the above attractions are located just a short distance from the Black Orchid Resort.
